6086   Wonderful dwarf or grandmother clock

Wonderful dwarf or grandmother clock. I have owned several clocks this size over the years but this is by far the best one. Usually these clocks have poor proportions and they look heavy or clunky but this one is spot-on perfect. The solid mahogany case has a great finish showing off the matched veneer on the door and base, reeded columns, blind fretwork on the hood, waist and base plus carved medallions at the top.

Originally, this clock had a weight driven movement with a rocking ship dial. When I found the clock the movement was gone but the dial remained. Finding a movement with winding arbors to match those in the dial was not possible so I saved the dial and it is included with this clock. Foster Campos made clocks this size and I found a movement, dial and weights that still remained in his old stock. His dials were blank so I had the Smallwoods in Georgia custom paint a dial for this clock and it looks terrific.

This clock runs eight days on a winding and has an hourly strike on a delicate bell. It is in good running order. I estimate that this clock case was made around 1930 or so.

If you have that special spot in your home that needs a clock this size, you will definitely not be disappointed with the quality of this fine example.
