Clock #1072 Western Union clock by the Self Winding Clock Company Western Union clock by the Self Winding Clock Company. Dating from about 1930, this is another situation where the clock was a blend between the traditional and the new. This clock was powered by two large dry cells but yet it had a pendulum. The dry cells, which were 1.5 volts each I believe, wound a small mainspring once every few minutes. That mainspring then drove the pendulum. The distinctive, heavy pendulum and the hands are the originals for this clock. The metal case was repainted brown many years ago. It has a very good 16 inch paper dial which reads "Naval Observatory Time, Western Union, Self Winding Clock Co. Inc., New York." The clock is now set up to run on regular household current, so you simply need to plug it in. Nothing was altered, so if you wish to return to powering the clock by dry cells, you would simply disconnect a couple of wires. In either event, it is still pendulum regulated. The clock is running but the movement is quite dusty. The case measures 19 inches square. Western Union clock by the Self Winding Clock Company - closeup / dial / order - $135. . |

Clock #1078 French gallery clock. This clock has a solid oak case which has been cleaned and refinished. There are no damages at all and it looks great. It has an extra nice dial which is reverse painted on glass and is signed "F. TRAVERS, A LA HAYE-DU-PUITS." The hands and pendulum are original. This is an eight day clock with an hourly gong strike. It is running and striking but it came from a collection where it had not been cleaned in quite some time. 14 inches in diameter. French gallery clock - closeup / closeup2 / order - $155. |

Clock #1079 Ansonia gallery clock. This clock has a solid walnut case which has been refinished to a rather dark color. It has a signed paper dial which is in pretty good condition with a separate seconds dial. It has a very good label which states that this is a "one-day lever" model. I believe the handle on the top is a later addition. The clock runs for me for a short while then stops. 10 inches in diameter. Ansonia gallery clock - closeup / label / order - $65. |

Clock #9004 Ansonia "General"
wall regulator clock. The dial is 18" in diameter with the original paint. There is some paint loss on the outer edge but overall it is in quite good condition. Another plus feature is that this model has a seconds dial. It retains the original hands, brass weights, brass pendulum without any damages, key, and signed beat scale. This is an eight day timepiece and it is in good running order. At 61 inches tall this is a very large and impressive clock and really makes a statement when hung in that special location. closeup - of Ansonia "General" wall regulator clock. / closeup2 / dial1 / dial2 / dial3 / interior / order - $2,700. |

Clock #1073 Bulle Electro Magnetic clock. Of British manufacture, about 1930, this clock had a dry cell which provided current to run a magnetically impulsed pendulum. This is a high-quality item with a very interesting mechanism. The case is solid walnut and it is in excellent, clean condition. It has a great silvered dial which is almost like new and it retains the original hands. The suspension spring is broken but a new, correct one is included. The movement has a serial number of 53230. It measures 15 inches square. Bulle Electro Magnetic clock - closeup / order - SOLD |

Clock #1074 Newman Watchman's Clock. Made by Perry & Co Newman Watchman's Clock. Made by Perry & Co., I believe this is of British origin. The case is solid walnut and it is in very good condition with the original finish. It has a brass bezel and a near-perfect painted dial which is signed "Newman Watchman's Clock and 8 Day Dustproof Timekeeper, patented May 18, 1880." It has the original hands and an excellent full-page label and directions sheet inside the rear of the case. It has an eight day double wind movement which is very similar to those produced by Seth Thomas. It is running but quite sluggish so it is in need of oiling. Exactly how this operated I do not know but it appears that a paper dial revolved on the inside of the case and something punched or marked times on that dial. It looks like something is missing that would attach to the back of the movement because I do not see a way of mounting that dial paper. The case is 14 inches square.
